The Origins of Attelius - Part I

Today I will share a little bit about the history of the setting depicted in the Attelius tookit for Sharp Swords & Sinister Spells. Each "Age" will have a general description and a table with random legends and beliefs connected to that period, which the Referee can use to inspire his games and create adventure hooks with.

Very little is known about the origins of this and any other world. However, much is speculated by the many Chroniclers of the Order.

There are many theories regarding these primal times sponsored by many different scholars from varying cultures. Each of them seem to favor their own people as the ones who bear the truth of this beginning. Of course, this generates much conflict and debate in the Order and among the People who defend their own vision above all else. Some wars have even fought because of these beliefs.

Generally, most cultures agree that before time began, only the Void existed, and a being formed by non existence decided it was time to create its counterpart of existence. How it happened and what it created differ greatly from each cultural however.

The Many Origins
1
First, there was the Void, the Nothing. But it had sentience. It realized it could only exist if there was something. The Void only made sense if there was something to contrast itself to. So out of nothing came everything. And along the many eons, we cherished everything but the Void. Now it hates everything that was created, and he wants to be alone again. - Senoloe, the Eyeless Prophet of Arthasia
2
Nolean and Iarin, the Love Gods gave birth to everything there is. Through their constant orgies, between themselves and with everything they themselves created, more and more was born. All beings are thus brothers and sisters, but some are more pure than others. - Helea, the Great Mother of the Eleans
3
The Universe we live is a lie, an illusion, the product of the dream of a dying god. We have little time left to live, but each second of the dying god’s life can be ages in our time. - Inolue, the Truth Seer of the Ongkheseans
4
We created ourselves with our willingness to exist. All that has happened and will happen is the product of our own desires, fears and hopes. Zhar’Thorp, the Zartarian God-Emperor
5
In the beginning it was all dark. Then Alios awakened from his sleep. The Sun God covered everything with his unforgiving and relentless light. No one could escape its gaze and all should obey him. But his light awoke Paluna, the moon goddess, and she sheltered us from the burning gaze and authoritarianism of Alios. She reflected only the light we needed from him, and provided us with shadows and a way to see our path. - Milanie, the Moon Priestess
6
Before everything, there was only Chaos. Only monsters and daemons were created at this age. But one of them realised that there could be more. That beauty, peace, love and unity could exist. The threw his daemonic form away and became Rullikar. He created out of the discarded parts of his daemonic nature what we are today, proving we all can change if we accept him and fight the war against Chaos. - Silaya, the Prophet Queen
7
Our Universe was empty. It didn’t exist. But the Ancients came to our dimension, fleeing from the Others that hunted them down in their original world. It was them who created everything we know and care for. They teached us to stand, to think, to talk, to create. But the Others followed them here, through the Void they attacked and brought back the old war. They had just one option: To go back and end it once and for all. - Aadhura, the Speaker if the Stars
8
The raw elements were everything that existed for many ages. But they all got tired of one another and tried to create siblings, mixing their own matter. This continue to this day. Every day something new can be created. We are the result of creative ancestors, and we all have the responsibility to create our own world. - Issae, the Thaumaturge
9
The was the primordial egg, containing both the essence of animals and that of men. When it hatched, animals and men worked together and the world prospered. But as the eons have passed, men and animal grew apart, distancing each other, forgetting they were once one and the same. Men became obsessed with himself, egotistical, cold. Animal became irrational, savage, brutal. Only when we realise we are one and the same, balance will be restored. - Guway, the Owl Guide of Ruman
10
Ragar, the great serpent, created the world on her own body. Her sons, Solhain e Manehain were the sun and the moon, and would take care of her creation. But they were proud gods, and sought to get admiration from the mortal subjects, fighting each other for reverence. One day, however, Ragar will punish her sons. - Lokari, Archpriest of Solhain
11
Yuzul, the first, was a lonely good. But he could not create anything. Loneliness took him over, and he committed suicide. From his entrails, life was born, and matter created. From his soul, came the spirits that surround us. We are all part of him, and he is everyone of us. - Kaellan, Speaker of Yuzul
12
X’Zagoth, the frog god of secrets, created the universe with the song of his croaking. It’s only following the secret music of his croaking, and finding the secrets he left behind that humankind with achieve its well deserved place in the universe. - Baerankine, the Blood Sorcerer

My RPG Zine Trilogy is on Kickstarter!

I can't believe I didn't post about it here! The Dead are Coming, Screams Amongst the Stars and Running Out of Time are on Kickstarter right now! These are 3 complete games, made using the system of Electric Bastionland and Mausritter as the basis (and with some modifications to fit my vision for each of them). As with my games, they all come filled with many tools and tables to generate gaming content, adventures, locations, NPCs and much more. They are compact, easy to use, and equipped to provide you with years of entertainment! Here's a brief description of each of the games. The Dead Are Coming The first of them is called The Dead Are Coming, a minimalist, OSR style RPG about survival in a post-apocalyptic world where the dead have risen and other survivors can be much worse than the undead. Characters in this game are common people who have been struggling to survive, find their loved ones, keep them safe and just trying to keep living. They all carry resources like

How to never describe a dungeon!

Artwork by Luigi Castellani I've heard it a thousand times. You probably heard it too. Some people , I don't know why, say that dungeons , especially large ones, are boring . The endless repetitions of rooms and corridors and having to choose to go left, right, north or south depresses them. I don't know why. Actually, I do know why. Because they don't really know how to run a dungeon in play. It seems easy, effortless. Just say what's in the room the PCs are in and where the passages going out of it go. But it's not. They get bored with the "you get to a intersection and there is a door to the north and two passages, one going east and one going west" because that's a terrible way of describing a dungeon environment and gives nothing really useful to the players to choose from. You never describe a dungeon like that . There's a lot more going on that we can initially see. A good referee will take all the context of what the dungeon w

Dark Streets & Darker Secrets - Complete Game Text

November was NaGaDeMon (National Game Design Month), and I decided to create an Action Horror RPG using my system (updated with all the modifications of Solar Blades & Cosmic Spells). Inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, X-Files, The Chilling Tales of Sabrina, Grimm and many more TV Shows, comics and books, I quickly worte Dark Streets & Darker Secrets . It is written in a very direct and simple way, similar to Sharp Swords & Sinister Spells originally was, but with uodated rules and a lot of tools and tables to assist the Referee in creating adventures, NPCs, locations, artifacts, monsters and much more. The book itself will eventually be release in partnership with Gallant Knight Games , but the text is already written and ready to be used, so I am sharing it here with you all! There is no official character sheet yet. I am working on it. But a simple Index Card will work just as well! So here it is:  https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QlFYafvxvJAyk
