The Dead Are Coming - Running the Apocalypse

8 - Running The Apocalypse While the world practically ended, survivors are still going to explore every inch of it trying to make it for another day. 8.1 - Exploration When exploring outside of action scenes time is measured in Turns during which a survivor can make a major action such as: examining a part of the location, moving to a different room or engaging with something or someone. 8.2 - Traveling Use a hexagonal map where each hex is 6 miles a side and 12 miles across. A group of survivors can normally travel 12 miles (1 hex) per watch. Some terrain types (swamps, hills, thick forests, etc.) reduce this by half, taking two watches to travel 1 hex. Rest A Survivor who doesn’t  rest at least one watch every two days is Exhausted. Weather Roll 2d6 to determine the daily weather—which can be a worthy adversary in the end of the world. Weather that is bolded are dangerous conditions for traveling. Each watch spent traveling under these conditions triggers a STR Save to a...

The Dead Are Coming - Followers, Bands & Communities

5 - Followers As your survivor and companions live through all this forsaken world’s hardships, you invariably attract followers. These individuals can help you in many situations—provided you take care of them. When the group saves someone, helps them significantly or, simply, becomes somewhat famous for prolonged survival, others start seeking them out to join. When convincing people to join, make a WIL save and offer 1d6 Resources. If successful they join your band. Typical stats: 1d4 HP, 2d6 STR, DEX and WIL and a Random Background. Unless specified, they follow the same rules as your survivor. 5.1 - Follower Morale When a follower or band is placed in a difficult situation, is Deprived by lack of food or water or feel used, they must pass a WIL save or leave (possibly betraying you if appropriate). If you treat them with respect and care, this save has Advantage. 6 - Bands & Communities At some point, your group may wish to form a Band or even establish a Communit...

The Dead Are Coming - Inventory

2 - Inventory Your survivor can carry a number or normal sized items equal to 5 + STR. If they lose their backpack or similar items, they can carry a number of items equal to their STR only. Some larger items, such as two-handed weapons and bulky armour count as 2 items. 2.1 - Retrieving Items You organize your inventory putting the most accessible items in the first positions on the character sheet. To retrieve an item on an encounter, spend your action and roll 2d6. If you roll equal to or higher than the item position, you retrieve it. Otherwise you will also need your next action to get it. 2.2 Durability Most items have Durability of 3. When an item loses a point of Durability, mark a “*” next to it on your character sheet. When the item has 3 “*” next to it, it is depleted or destroyed. “*” can be cleared from items if they are repaired, recharged or refilled. Items usually lose 1 point of Durability whenever the Referee deems they have been used enough. When using an item and ma...

The Dead Are Coming - Survivor Creation

1 - Create a Survivor The world is a mess. Civilization as we know it has collapsed. The cities are overrun with flesh eating monsters you call zombies, people have turned on one another and you survive as you can. While you can. 1.1 - Attributes Your survivor has three attributes. These determine their basic strengths and weaknesses. Strength (STR): Physical prowess and endurance. Dexterity (DEX): Agility and eye-hand coordination. Willpower (WIL): Force of will and charisma. For each of these attributes roll 2d+3 in order. You may swap any two attributes scores. 1.2 - Hit Protection (HP) Roll 1d6 for your HP. This is how much damage your survivor can shrug off before actually getting wounded. 1.3 - Resources Roll 1d6 to determine how many units of Resources you begin with. You can allocate these to Food, Water, Bullets or Fuel however you like. 1.4 - Background Cross reference the values of your HP and Initial Resources on the Background table. This is what your survivor was before t...
