Lost in the Fantasy World and Maze of Many Portals

Nathan Treme is a freaking genius and started this magnificent Dungeon Pamphlet Jam over itch.io (although I can’t use it because it does not accept PayPal). He has been created some great small adventures and dungeons in pamphlet format and sending it to backers of his patreon and selling the PDFs over DriveThruRPG.

I, obviously, wanted to join this jam and do something with this charming format. So I did something I’ve been wanting to make for a long time. An RPG inspired by a cartoon that was inspired by an RPG, the classic Dungeons & Dragons series of the 80s! So using the things I was designing for my kid’s RPG and some other gaming influences I made a quick and simple system that offer enough options to be interesting to more mature players but that still fit in a single pamphlet. The game is called Lost in the Fantasy World!

In it, you play as a kid or teenager who was teleported to this fantastic world of adventure and been give a powerful magical artifact by this enigmatic figure called Mentor (who is played by the referee) and now seeks a way back home. The blurb of the game is the following:

Lost in the Fantasy World is an adventure game where players assume the roles of kids from our world who have been magically transported to a fantasy world with magic and monsters. They must now try desperately to get back home. But they did receive these amazing artifacts from a mysterious Mentor. These make them very powerful, but force them to often choose between going home or staying to help the native people with their many plights.

This is an ideal game for when you have a small amount of time to kill and a lot of imagination. All you will need is this pamphlet printed out, some index cards for notes a few D6s a your friends!

I have also created a adventure pamphlet to accompany the game called Maze of the Many Portals, in which the PCs are tricked into going to a sinister maze and open portals to other worlds so they can get back home. Obviously, things don’t go according to their plans, and they will need to make some tough choices in the end.

You can grab the PDF of the RPG Pamphlet as a PWYW product on DriveThruRPG (the adventure isn’t available as PDF yet).

Or you can acquire them both in print, through the mail, sending me your address and 6 dollars through PayPal to diogosnog at gmail dot com!

How to never describe a dungeon!

Artwork by Luigi Castellani I've heard it a thousand times. You probably heard it too. Some people , I don't know why, say that dungeons , especially large ones, are boring . The endless repetitions of rooms and corridors and having to choose to go left, right, north or south depresses them. I don't know why. Actually, I do know why. Because they don't really know how to run a dungeon in play. It seems easy, effortless. Just say what's in the room the PCs are in and where the passages going out of it go. But it's not. They get bored with the "you get to a intersection and there is a door to the north and two passages, one going east and one going west" because that's a terrible way of describing a dungeon environment and gives nothing really useful to the players to choose from. You never describe a dungeon like that . There's a lot more going on that we can initially see. A good referee will take all the context of what the dungeon w

My RPG Zine Trilogy is on Kickstarter!

I can't believe I didn't post about it here! The Dead are Coming, Screams Amongst the Stars and Running Out of Time are on Kickstarter right now! These are 3 complete games, made using the system of Electric Bastionland and Mausritter as the basis (and with some modifications to fit my vision for each of them). As with my games, they all come filled with many tools and tables to generate gaming content, adventures, locations, NPCs and much more. They are compact, easy to use, and equipped to provide you with years of entertainment! Here's a brief description of each of the games. The Dead Are Coming The first of them is called The Dead Are Coming, a minimalist, OSR style RPG about survival in a post-apocalyptic world where the dead have risen and other survivors can be much worse than the undead. Characters in this game are common people who have been struggling to survive, find their loved ones, keep them safe and just trying to keep living. They all carry resources like
